Emanuil Popgenchev (1942-2010)
Emanuil Popgenchev was born on 16.02.1942. In the town of Gabrovo. He graduated from the Nikolay Pavlovich National Academy of Arts in Sofia, in the Decorative and Monumental Painting Department in 1967. Until 1974 he lives and works in the town of Gabrovo, in the period 1974 2006 – in Varna, and until he died in 2010 – in Sofia. He works in the field of Painting and Decorative Monumental Art. Member of Union of bulgarian Artists from 1973. He has many solo exhibitions in the country. He participated in general and representative exhibitions of fine arts in Bulgaria and abroad – Romania, Russia, Germany, Serbia, Italy, France, England, Poland, Austria, Mexico, Mongolia, Egypt. He has assigned prestigious painting awards. His works are owned by the National Art Gallery – Sofia, the Sofia City Art Gallery and a number of art galleries in Bulgaria and abroad, as well as private collections in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Serbia and England. He has made dozens of monumental works in many cities in the country – frescoes, mosaics, stone sculpture, carving, ceramics, sgraffito. Emanuil Popgenchev is the only contemporary Bulgarian artist who builds his overall creativity in the style of Cubism and receives international recognition as a vivid representative of this trend in fine arts.
