At the beginning of October, two years after her second exhibition at Nuance Gallery, Catherine Tomova will once again transform the gallery with her abstract canvases specially created for the space. In the exhibition entitled “ENTROPY”, we can trace the gradual return of the strong and expressive color typical of Catherine’s work, which was replaced by the darker tones in the artist’s palette during her last appearance at the gallery. The past few years have brought uncertainty and disorder to our world. And if with her previous exhibition \u201cPaint It Dark\u201d Catherine immersed herself in the study of alienation and depersonalization of us as individuals, in response to the isolation due to the pandemic, logically she should turn her attention to the chaos inside and around us. The title of the exhibition, which you will be able to view from October 3rd to 22nd, unambiguously directs the viewer’s gaze inward to himself, where, in addition to darkness, he can find hope, light and the freedom of the spirit.
\nIn the following lines, you will read Catherine Tomova’s thoughts about her current exhibition.
\nENTROPY. It’s certainly an odd name for an exhibition. But it probably shows some consistency with the themes of some of my previous exhibition projects: ‘Devolution’, ‘The Island at Noon’, ‘Thorny Delights’… The method of abstract painting in which I work gives me the freedom to explore without the constraints of formal imagery. In its philosophical sense, “entropy” is a measure of disorder, illustrating Murphy’s Law: “Anything that can go wrong, certainly will.” The proverb is, in fact, the succinct formulation of modern times, of the reality we know in all its expressions. The other closest concept is “chaos”. But it, in addition to negative, uncontrolled, growing disorder, also contains the idea of chaos as complete freedom, as a creative energy seeking new forms, a new or different order.<\/p>\n\t\t\t
