His regular participation in our international watercolor exhibitions gave the Bulgarian public the opportunity to get in touch with his work and remain captivated. This is also the reason why we invited him to carry out his own independent project in the space of the gallery. The exhibition entitled “Heavenly Scapes” can be viewed from November 14 to December 3. As the title itself suggests, what unites the works in the exhibition is the sky, wind, clouds and water. The masterful combination of earthly elements leaves the viewer with a feeling of lightness and airiness, as if he is really somewhere in the clouds among the heavenly scapes that open before his eyes. In the following lines, you will read Sergey Temerev’s thoughts about his first and jubilee exhibition in Bulgaria.
Heavenly Scapes.
What is this about? What does this mean for an author who shows an exhibition under this name? And what could that mean for the viewer to whom these words are addressed?
This year is an anniversary year for the author.
That’s not a bad case for looking around. A case to look at the past, and try to peer at something of the upcoming. A case to take a look at the sources of one’s inspiration, and what was left on paper in response to this inspiration. Maybe to understand something, if a chance would be luck.
~
The artist’s view of the world is a ‘duplicated view’. This view is directed to the visible world through the windows of his own eyes. But it’s also a look through other windows – windows of the imageries, already created once by that artist. Once incarnated, these imageries are now forever helpers in further art practice, and, they are witnesses to the artist’s existence, both before oneself and the world.

                #foogallery-gallery-28783.fg-simple_portfolio {
                    justify-content: center;
                }
artist oneself but also others turn out looking at the world through them. And sometimes the artist just needs a different, strange, and special look. Past all that was created before, past these windows – images that testify about you and say that you are capable of that or that.
~
Whether it is because the world pivoted out by the side, which is hard to look at, but not to look at is impossible. Or perhaps all the matter in the own destiny’s turns. But sometimes only the otherwise, special look at reality becomes a saving. To look at things faced you, evanescently, but newly, without losing sharpness, not missing nuances. And, while maintaining the calm of permanence – to being marveled suddenly. Like finding one more greatest treasure among the piles of others. I must say, moments of my life have convinced me that the best direction for such a new view is the Skies.
~
A year and a half ago, my first of several already done “Heavenly Scapes” series got its life began. It was a series of 15 monochrome works that soon went on its overseas trip but up to now wasn’t shown widely to the public. The next black & white series, the ‘Sky Scapes, Series II’ has fully been shown to viewers online on my social media. Also, it was partially exhibited at the Stieglitz Academy about a year ago. Here is another color series of three dozen artworks, which I represent this time. It’s only three dozen glances at the cloudy world, but this journey took about a year.
What is it for the author? The delight of the breathtaking view of the cloudy towers, valleys, and gorges. The hypnotic cloudy shows, the parades, and the marches of the clouds.
~
What can that mean to the viewer?
Perhaps that’s just the chance to slip away for a moment of the commonness. To slip away, however, being appear in a huge expanse, without a footing, where it is possible to linger on something only by your eyes. And where only the clingy gaze seems to have the power to hold its owner over the downless void. Above a space that can accommodate both the density of darkness and twilight softness and the piercing sharpness of light.
Even if this space is facing your eyes only as an image, isn’t it an adventure? It’s “Heavenly Scapes”.

Biography of Sergey Temerev
Sergey Temerev graduated from the Boris Johanson secondary art school, from the St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture “Repin”, and then from the Faculty of Architecture of the “Repin” Institute, with a qualification diploma of an architect and artist.
