Nikolay Panayotov
“They”
Painting
Curator: Hristina Bobokova
June 20 – July 16, 2023
For the second time in the space of Nuance Gallery, we have the pleasure of introducing you to the work of the artist Nikolay Panayotov, who lives between Paris and Sofia. In the exhibited canvases, united under the title “They”, you will encounter the artist’s well-known provocation to the viewer to discover for himself in the symbols and various associations the meaning of what his eyes see. The exhibition, curated by Hristina Bobokova, includes the latest searches of Nikolay Panayotov and can be viewed from June 20 to July 16. The following lines present the artist’s reflections that unite the works in this exhibition.
“They wake up during his sleep, emerge from the shells of his overstuffed skull, and crawl about, pensive, happy, and brilliantly anxious.
They combine into forms similar to him, but also steal appendages and ramifications from other floral and animal creatures to make them look more believable.
They have no time and place to be born, they are not interested in the requirements of the day or the consumer market, what their purposes are is a random regularity.
They resemble the maddening resulting from rational scientism seeking to replace it and assume its purpose, grinning fearfully into impending obscurity.
They were created artificially intellectually on the edge of his long experiments to search within himself for the different and desperately to find the same.
They prepare to wear it on their heads and bump into other heads, provoking questions and dishing out answers from sunny colors in rounded shapes.
They are happy and dangerous in their intentions to erase everything here, returning to the caves and on the walls of the earth to start new figurative outrages.
They are the ones who will complete his unfinished delusions, to lead him into complete senselessness.”
