From 1st to 20th October the Nuance Gallery is pleased to invite you to the exhibition “Thorny Delights” presenting new oil paintings by the artist Katherine Tomova.
Catherine Tomova’s picturesque language is extremely memorable, her work in form and color has evolved logically and consistently since her college years. Her long career goes through more than 20 solo exhibitions, specializations in Paris and many exhibitions in group shows in the country and abroad. The topics that she follows are always personal, they are unfolded in a visual narrative through her sense of the possibilities of certain colors and shapes to convey a complex idea, at an intuitive level. In large formats, she feels free to develop intricate abstract compositions that, at the same time, create spaces of tangible depth. Katrin Tomova’s “plot” does not resemble anything we know so far, but somehow creates a completely physical, possible space, which the more contemplated, the more it becomes realistic.
The title “Thorny Delights” is a reference to the creation process. For the artist, the creative act is inevitably connected with the prickly, painful sensations, but also he alone can bring the sought after pleasure and satisfaction. That is why, in Katherine Tomova’s paintings, the color is rich and bold, often warm ranges alternating with cold, which brings a sense of contradiction that transforms into harmony.

She received her artistic education and practice at the School of Painting, organized by the Vice President of the Autumn Salon Pierre Ramel in Paris, where she lived from 1989 to 1991. She shows her first two solo exhibitions in 1988 and 1989 at the Sofia Youth Theater. He then made four consecutive appearances at the Paris Autumn Salon (1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992) and participated in the Representative Exhibition of Bulgarian Artists in France in 1991. – a young participant. The same year she was accepted as a student at École-des-Beaux-Arts, but her studies there were hindered by circumstances. She exhibited in the existing commercial galleries at the Rila and Intercontinental hotels in Sofia at that time (1992). In 1993, at the invitation of the Apollo and Mercury Gallery, she exhibited a large solo exhibition of Shipka 6. In 1994 she was admitted to the UBA in the Painting section. There are solo exhibitions abroad at the Mona Gallery in Limassol, Cyprus (1995) and at the Gothier Gallery in Saarlouis, Germany (1998).
