LUBEN ZIDAROV
HARMONY IN REVERSE
painting plus five watercolors
A year after his previous exhibition at the Nuance Gallery, “The Old Man and the Three Seas,” and 40 years after the first time he fell into the city of dreams for every artist – Paris, Lyuben Zidarov again had his exposition in the same place. More precisely, the seats, though the same, are two: one is his graduate in January in Paris, and the second one is the one in his “Nuance”.
An artist by calling is necessary to be a stranger, in the reality of being or in the realities of his imagination. Lyuben Zidarov has always managed to be both at the same time. In him, direct perception documents not so much the vision but the specificity as the image of the emotion from the meeting with her. He has not once said that the first contact with Paris has awakened the painter in it, behind the presence of the illustrator. This exhibition is a tribute to the city of art and to the world for which it still matters. Faithful to the traditional tendency to play with words and images, here Lyuben Zidarov is joking again with the supposedly steady course of time: the “reverse harmony” of the neglected Paris of four decades ago, and the young artist, rushed to his artistic discoveries and the wise artist, unexpectedly meeting his youth in the image of a renewed city, familiar-unknown, old and young at the same time, as the art itself and the need for it.
