Nina and Ivo Petrovi
Oil painting
April 16- May 12, 2024
For the third time, the family of artists Nina and Ivo Petrovi will present their art in the “Nuance” gallery. With the last exhibition, they successfully took us to the romantically lost world of Belle Époque and The Great Gatsby. Now we invite you to get to know their worldview in even more detail, which remains true to their personal perceptions. Nina defines her style as retro pop art and finds her greatest inspiration in posters from the 1920s, as well as photography from the 1950s and 1960s. In this way, a kind of retro atmosphere is created. Ivo, for his part, works in the field of figurative painting and is defined as strongly influenced by the Secession. Their works are recognizable, as characteristic of Ivo is the interweaving of various ornaments into the plot, while for Nina it is pop art motifs, as well as the almost impossibility for the viewer to determine whether he is contemplating a photograph or a painting, but at the same time their paintings carry a sense of complement. As they themselves share, they do not work separately, on the contrary, they are inspired by each other and the creative process flourishes thanks to their work together. Over the years, one could even notice specific cycles, common to both of them, which are a unifying theme in their paintings – the power of tranquility, of the jazz clubs during the last century, of portraits combined with abstraction.
The current exhibition is a different observation of moments and sensations from a not-so-distant past of Art Deco, whose aesthetic essence, apart from the artists, is also dreamed of by each of us.
Nina and Ivo are more than a tandem. Classmates at the applied school in Tryavna, fellow students at the art faculty of Veliko Tarnovo University, partners in life and a creative duo. Over the years, they have held exhibitions in Barcelona, Paris, Moscow, Vienna, Istanbul, Toulouse, Lille, The Hague, Amsterdam, Strasbourg and Luxembourg.
