Dimitar Trukananov Trukan
Disturbed Zone
painting
January 16 – February 3
In his first exhibition in 2018, Nuance Gallery is pleased to present Dimitar Troukanov – Trukan and his exhibition “Disturbed Zone”. For all the works in the exhibition, the artist uses his own original technique. It brings the paper to the three-dimensional state of the mess, and in this state, different processes occur. He sees the technique not as an experiment with material but as an interaction with matter. Trukan’s works are the result of the communication between water, fire, pigments and metal sealed in paper. Throughout his creative journey, he is also interested in the themes of “The Five Elements” and “Stichii”, which is also evident in his new “Zona Zona” exhibition. The work he will present continues the study of the relationship between the three-dimensional and two-dimensional state of the paper and the consequences thereof. Dimitar Troukanov does not work with preliminary themes, his creative search is unintentional, he tries to achieve states. He reflects on the inner and outer landscape and is excited by the endless variations that flow from it. Trucan himself says he associates with “bang, rupture and chaos” the works of his painting “Disturbed Zone” at the Nuance Gallery.
Dimitar Troukanov’s work as an artist is complemented by everyday practices in the acquisition of historical combat skills. For him, these two processes are different manifestations of the same state.
In 2006 began his project “Madara Horseman”. An artist who has no experience with horses, dogs, and weapons such as bow and arrows, spear, sword, sword …. tries to build this figure combining man, horse and dog … complemented by practicing with the weapons used by our ancestors in antiquity.
This becomes a process devoted to this idea, and the artist experiences a whole new and different life. Everyday life devoted to these animals, uninterrupted trainings and quests of long-lost knowledge and skills. The idea of becoming one with the horse. Searches and finds in this direction lead to the systematisation of a new methodology, which aims to lead a person as close as possible to the state of a “centaur” … a whole with the horse. In parallel, there is a 24-hour process devoted to mastering the main weapons.
Archery from a horse is differentiated as one of the main disciplines. Currently, in the world, this is one of the most popular and fast-growing traditional martial arts sports. For years, tournaments have been held in different countries. There is an international association, which is under the aegis of UNESCO to restore and preserve ancient traditions and culture. In the past 2017 Dimitar Troukanov took part in four international tournaments in different parts of the world. In several separate disciplines and ranked twice at first and once in second place.
He himself claims that the processes and conditions he goes through in martial arts and art are developing in parallel and are similar to experience.
